Quick answer

The current launch roster has eight main melee weapons: The Iconoclast, Axe and Dagger, Veteran’s Battle Axe, Great Martyr’s Blade, Obsidian Hammer, Axatana, Black Needle, and Clockwork Scythe. Their acquisition anchors are tied to the Prologue, Fainweald, and Mammon routes below.

What to pick up first

The Iconoclast is early Prologue equipment. For an early optional melee weapon, follow the Chapel Key route from Mushroom Village to Shrine of Trials; the dungeon ends with Axe and Dagger. Use the Mushroom Village Key guide if the locked chapel is blocking the route.

Black Needle route

Black Needle belongs to the Mammon section of the world. The documented route uses Sester’s Gate and Sester’s Bastion, with the Stray Sisters encounter as the location landmark. The Black Needle guide contains its listed ability and upgrade reference.

Weapons and sidearms

Mortal Shell II also has a separate sidearm set. Sidearms consume Resolve and are not mixed into the melee table above; use the relevant loadout and Tarforge information when planning ranged tools. The Beginner Guide explains how Resolve, sidearms, Shell abilities, and melee weapons fit together.
